How Bee does Motherhood: Shopping for Jax + Leo

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

I have not done a “How Bee does Motherhood” in so long that writing this brings such a smile to my face. And the fact that y’all asked me to talk about shopping keeps that smile on my face. Not only do I love shopping but I think I am pretty good at it too! When it comes to shopping for our boys I’ve come up with some great strategies to help do it quickly and efficiently. I thought I would share em’ with you today as well as some things I’ve purchased for Jax + Leo recently for Spring.

Let me first start by saying, we do not have capsule wardrobes in our casa. If we see something in-store that we like, it will come home with us most of the time. We also don’t have a set budget for shopping. When shopping for the boys I tend to shop in seasons. I shop for the upcoming season and depending on what the clearance sections look like I can shop multiple seasons at the same time. Each season I sort through the boy’s clothes. I purge and donate what doesn’t fit anymore and take things with way too many stains and toss them. I take an inventory of what they need for the next season and what they don’t need. I look at it all and try things on if we need to. And by it all I mean… it all! Chones, socks, jammies, shirts, tees, shorts, pants, shoes, jackets, swimwear, and hats. Once the sorting is through I re-organize drawers and closets and get to shopping.

Living in Texas you never really know what the next season will truly bring, you just do what you can to prepare.

I do most of my shopping for the boys online. My go-to sites are H&M, Target, Old Navy, Walmart, and Little Co by LC at Kohls. H&M has incredible neutrals and great deals on basic tees, starting at $3. They also have an amazing sale page! Target… I think all of us parents can agree that Target really does kill it when it comes to their kid’s clothing. The two lines I always shop from are, Art Class and Cat & Jack. I like shopping at Old Navy for jammies and Jax’s tees. He has a really long torso so their 5T tees are long enough for him without looking too baggy. Walmart has hidden gems like, shoes! The Wonder Nation brand for kids there is awesome! Little Co by Lauren Conrad at Kohls has been my go-to brand for Leo. The colors are just so creamy and bold and there is always a good sale. Right now things are BOGO 50%!

I like shopping online for the boys because of two reasons the first being, my purchases are saved. If I really like something that I had bought in the past and want to size up for the next season, the link is saved for me in my account on that site. The second reason is, I can filter out what I need in order to quickly scroll through what’s available. My two favorite filters, color + size. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good 15-page clearance section but sometimes you just need to get to business.

I do shop in-store too. Like I said before, if we’re out and about and see something we like, most of the time it comes home with us. When we’re out shopping in-store I still like to stroll through the clothes to see if anything stands out to the boys. Since I pick most of their clothes this is their moment to pick what they want rather than what I like or what would look good in an Instagram photo. This is how the fun graphic tee’s and superhero jammies end up coming home with us.

Shopping in seasons and shopping online from only a few brands are my two keys to keeping our boys looking cute all year round.

When it comes to Fabian’s role in dressing his boys he typically will take charge in the shoe department. And on occasion, he will have an outfit in mind and want to match with them too. His favorite places to shop for their shoes are the Vans Outlet (they always have the best sales) and Nike. We also don’t shy away from purchasing used shoes too. After a good cleaning and disinfecting you can get some solid use out of a pair of used kid’s shoes. So thrift stores and kid’s resale shops and even the pulga are places we look for shoes too.

Shopping and dressing our boys has been one of my favorite parts of motherhood. I am grateful that for now, they still let me get them dressed when we head out the door. And when the season ends where they want to pick out all their own stuff I hope that just like the bible says, I have “trained up my child in the way he should go.” Enjoy the links below to my recent Spring purchases for the boys!
